Does floor care impact slip and falls?

On Behalf of | Feb 5, 2020 | Slip-and-Fall Accidents

Falls are one of the most common types of personal injury claims. They can happen anywhere in New Jersey, from your own home to a retail store. They also can happen at any time of year, despite the weather. In some cases, they may be unavoidable, such as during a snow storm when sidewalks become slippery. However, in most cases, slip and fall accidents are easy to prevent.

Cleanfax explains that many accidents from slipping on flooring in business locations result from improper floor care. Many falls are avoidable by keeping the floors in good condition and using proper cleaning methods. The way a professional cleans the floor could have a serious impact on preventing slippery conditions. There are many products on the market that have specific ingredients to help make floors less slick.

It is also important to inspect flooring for issues. This includes grooves or other wear that could potentially make the floor uneven. In the case of carpet, wear could result in rips or rolls that are a major tripping risk. The type of finish on the flooring is also important. Some finishes become incredibly slick when they get wet, which is not ideal for an area where people may be coming and going outside often.

The same things are true for private homes where slip and fall accidents also happen regularly. Businesses are not just the only place where this risk is present. It is a good idea to consider good floor care in your home, too.
