What New Jersey counties have the most car accidents?

On Behalf of | Apr 6, 2022 | Motor Vehicle Accidents

It is no secret that driving comes with the risk of getting into an accident. With thousands of car accidents happening every day, it is important to do what you can to stay safe while driving. In fact, some counties in New Jersey are more prone to accidents than others. But which ones are the most dangerous?

The five most dangerous counties to drive in

By being able to recognize what counties are more dangerous to drive in, you are able to prepare yourself to drive defensively properly. The five most dangerous New Jersey counties to drive in are:

  • Bergen
  • Essex
  • Middlesex
  • Union
  • Passaic

There are several factors that can lead to these counties being the most dangerous. Higher populations may be the most obvious, but car accidents can come from many causes, including cell phone distractions, eating while driving, updating your GPS while driving, and driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

How you can stay safe

While there is not much you can do to change a reckless driver’s habits while you are on the road, you can change your habits to protect yourself. Look for irregular speeds in other drivers, swerving, and even aggressive driving like tailgating in the cars around you.

If you suspect that someone around you is a reckless driver, allow them to pull ahead of you so you can watch them from a safe distance. The additional distance also will allow you more time to react to an accident they may cause. While any county can be dangerous for drivers, the more populous ones have extra risks, so be sure you are paying extra attention while driving in the most dangerous New Jersey counties.
